Guzar sits in Kashkadarya, a province that measures itself in gas fields more than football, and for most of the town's recent history the club carrying its name has been the one fixture that travelled beyond the region. Shortan traces back to Oq Oltin, a side that played under that name from 1986 before the current club took shape in 1992.

The gap between Guzar and the top of Uzbek football has mostly been filled with promotion pushes rather than titles. Shortan won the First League twice, in 2004 and again a decade later in 2014, each time forcing its way back among the country's leading clubs rather than staying there. The nearest it came to silverware at that level was 2010, a season that also produced a fourth-place league finish and a run to the Cup final, lost there but not embarrassed by it. Five years on, the club took the UzPFL Cup in 2015, a lesser trophy but the only one it has actually lifted.

2011 brought Shortan's only real exposure outside Uzbekistan, an AFC Cup campaign that carried the club as far as the last sixteen before it went out. Home games are played at the Guzar stadium, holding around 7,000, which has never needed to be bigger than the town it serves.

Local supporters know the club as the White Wolves, playing in white at home and dark blue away, and by 2025 that name was back in Uzbekistan's Pro League A, the tier the club has spent much of its history trying to reach and rejoin. It is the same aim that sent Oq Oltin onto the pitch in Guzar back in 1986.
