Between 2005 and 2009 Skövde AIK's futsal team took the Swedish Futsal Championship five years running. On the pitch, the club's defining run started in Division 5, the sixth tier, in 2002; four straight promotions carried it to Division 2 by 2006.

Founded in 1919 as Skövde Allmänna Idrottsklubb, the club is known simply as SAIK. It shares Södermalms IP, a 4,500-capacity ground, with local rivals IFK Skövde — the two clubhouses stand side by side.

Promotion to Superettan finally arrived in 2021, after Skövde AIK finished runners-up in Division 1 Södra and then beat Akropolis IF in the playoffs. The step up to the second tier held for three seasons. The debut year, 2022, brought a fifth-place finish; by 2024 the club had been relegated back down.

Players who came through the ranks have scattered across Swedish and European football since — Jonas Lindberg went on to GAIS, Sebastian Ohlsson to Degerfors IF, Viktor Granath as far as SV Sandhausen in Germany, Gustaf Norlin to ŁKS Łódź in Poland.
