St. Gallen II

Since 2024-25 St. Gallen II have been playing in the 1. Liga Classic, the fourth tier, following relegation from the Promotion League. As a reserve side the team cannot be promoted to the Super League or enter the main Swiss Cup.

The team traces back to the founding of FC St. Gallen in 1879, though it took its current name, FC St. Gallen II, only in the 2012/13 season, when the Swiss Football League restructured how first-team clubs registered their reserve sides. It carries the parent club's colours and its nickname, Espen, a name kept from the old Espenmoos ground even though the first team has long since moved to the Kybunpark.

At this level the fixture list is local rather than national: derbies against FC Wil and FC Winterthur define the senior side's calendar, but St. Gallen II's own opponents are drawn from the same canton, among them FC Gossau, FC Widnau and Winterthur's own reserve team.

Alessandro Vogt is the name attached to the team's clearest success story. He came through as a striker with St. Gallen II, was promoted to the first team in 2025, and moved on to TSG Hoffenheim the same year.
