Sydney Olympic

Two goals at the Sydney Football Stadium in 1990, and Marconi Stallions had no answer. The second came twelve years later, a single goal against Perth Glory, and it put Sydney Olympic among the few clubs to have won the old national league more than once.

The club began as Pan-Hellenic, founded in November 1957 by Greek-Australians in Sydney, and kept that name for two decades. The change to Sydney Olympic came in 1977, the year the National Soccer League started and the club joined as a founding member. The Greek connection outlived the name: the fiercest fixture in the calendar was against South Melbourne, the other big Greek-Australian side of the NSL, a match known simply as the Greek Derby and played out across two states.

The club went back to New South Wales competition and won the Premier League there in 2011. Home is the Belmore Sports Ground, in the suburb the club has never really left. The women's team plays elsewhere, at The Crest.

Norman Tome is the man who stayed: 172 games between 1993 and 2000, 53 goals, seven seasons in blue and white.
