The result that changed how the club is spoken of came a year earlier, when SYNTAINICS MBC lifted the BBL-Pokal, beating Bayern Munich in the semifinal and Bamberg Baskets 97–87 in the final, with Michael Devoe named MVP. It was the first major national title in the club's history, and the first ever won by a team from the former East Germany.

The basketball section grew out of SSV Einheit Weißenfels in September 1958, set up on the initiative of Horst Müller. It carried that name through the East German era and beyond, becoming Mitteldeutscher Basketball Club after the 1999/2000 season in an effort to draw support from across Central Germany, and taking its current sponsored name in 2019 through a partnership with Syntainics.

Its one European trophy dates to 2003–04, when the team won the FIBA Europe Cup against JDA Dijon, with Marijonas Petravičius taking the Final Four MVP award. Locally, the fixture that matters is against Niners Chemnitz, played out as the Mitteldeutschland Derby between the region's two clubs.

Home games are played in front of 3,000 at the Stadthalle Weißenfels, where the team known as Die Wölfe, a nickname given by former managing director Jürgen Lucas in the 1990s, takes the court in orange and blue.
