Grêmio Recreativo Pague Menos, as it was first called, existed to give Fortaleza employees somewhere to play after hours. It took a decade for the project to register as an amateur side with the Ceará Football Federation, and only in 2019 did it win anything of note, the Cearense Série C.

The senior side turned professional in 2021 and, the following year, became the first football corporation, or SAF, in Ceará state — a structural shift that ran alongside the youth setup's best season. Caio Vidal came through that academy before moving on to Internacional, and Erick Pulga , who passed through the same youth ranks, finished 2024 as Ceará's top scorer.
