Cearense U20 (Brazil) 2026/27

The Cearense U20 championship stands as the premier state-level competition for players under 20 years of age in the Brazilian state of Ceará. Organised by the Federação Cearense de Futebol (FCF), the tournament was established in 1972 and originally operated under the name Campeonato Cearense de Juniores. A significant restructuring occurred in 1998, when the event was renamed to align with international age categories. The competition experienced several interruptions in its history, including breaks in 1999, 2000, 2004, and a prolonged hiatus from 2006 to 2010, before becoming a regular annual fixture from 2011 onwards.

The league serves as the top tier in the state pyramid for this age group. Participation is generally reserved for the youth departments of clubs registered with the FCF, primarily those competing in the senior tiers. The format typically divides a large number of teams into two groups based on rankings. After a single round-robin phase between the groups, the top four teams from each section advance to a knockout stage comprising quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final. These knockout rounds are played over two legs, with the team securing the better aggregate score crowned champion.

Fortaleza holds the record for the most titles in the competition’s history, having won the trophy 22 times. This dominance includes consecutive victories in 2024 and 2025. Ceará finishes as the second most successful side with 12 titles, followed by Ferroviário with seven. Other winners include Floresta, Atlético Cearense, Tirol, Tiradentes, and Horizonte. The primary function of the league extends beyond local glory, serving as a qualifier for national and regional youth tournaments such as the Copa do Brasil Sub-20 and the Copa do Nordeste Sub-20.
