Horizonte U20 plays in the Campeonato Cearense Sub-20. The team last reached a final in 2014, and its one title in the category came four years later, in 2018, when it beat Fortaleza's youth side to win the championship outright.

That result carries more weight than it might elsewhere, because Fortaleza is one of the state's dominant names and a club Horizonte's senior side has never managed to out-rank at the top level. The first team has never won the Campeonato Cearense's Série A, its best finishes there stopping at third place, in 2008 and 2012. Where it has broken through is a tier down: the Série B, taken in 2007 and again in 2023, along with the Taça Fares Lopes and the Título do Interior earlier in that decade. A run to the round of 16 in the Copa do Brasil, in 2011, remains the club's deepest mark on a national stage.

Matches are played at the Estádio Olímpico Horácio Domingos de Sousa, known locally as Domingão, which holds 10,500. The club is nicknamed Galo do Tabuleiro — the rooster of the tableland — and wears yellow and blue, colours that appear reversed between the home and away kits, sleeves in one taking the shade the body wears in the other.

Horizonte itself grew out of a district called Olho D'água do Venâncio, which only later became the city that gave the club its name. The club traces itself back to 1933.
