Talk of Aliança U20 in the Serra da Ibiapaba always circles back to Fortaleza, the club that beat it 3–0 in the 2017 Campeonato Cearense Sub-20 final and left it with the runner-up medal instead of the title. That defeat still bought something: it sent the squad to the 2018 Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior.

The senior team behind that academy has had a harder road. Registered in 2008 in Pacatuba before relocating operations to Beberibe and Viçosa do Ceará in 2010, Aliança Atlética spent 2017 fielding a side built largely from employees of the Pague Menos pharmacy chain, under a partnership with Grêmio Recreativo Pague Menos, with Jairo Leandro de Queiroz Souza as its top scorer that season. A year later the club pulled out of the Campeonato Cearense Série B and was suspended from professional competition for two years.

Against that background, the Sub-20 side carries the club's identity. It plays as Carcará Metropolitano, after the caracara hawk, in the black-and-white stripes trimmed with yellow, at the Estádio João Firmino de Sousa, which holds around 2,400.
