Ümraniyespor

In Istanbul, the word derbi usually means Galatasaray against Fenerbahçe or Beşiktaş. Ümraniyespor's version is smaller and more local: matches against Esenler Erokspor and Fatih Karagümrük, clubs fighting the same lower-table battles on the Anatolian side, which the Turkish press still files under "İstanbul derbisi".

The club took its name from Ümraniye, the district on the Asian shore of Istanbul where it was formed in 1938. It spent the next several decades in amateur football before turning professional in 1984, and the real climb only started much later: the Bölgesel Amatör Lig title in 2010/11, promotion out of the 3. Lig as champions in 2013/14, then the 2. Lig title in 2015/16. The push continued under Recep Uçar, who took the team to second place in the 1. Lig in 2021/22 — enough to send Ümraniyespor into the Süper Lig for the first time in its history.

Home matches are played at the Ümraniye Belediyesi Şehir Stadyumu, which holds 3,513. Özer Kutlu remains the club's leading scorer, with 55 goals in 123 appearances between 2011 and 2015, most of them scored on the way up through the lower leagues rather than at the top. That top-flight scoring record belongs to Umut Nayir, the division's leading Turkish-born marksman in 2022/23 with 17 goals, a season that ended with his transfer to Fenerbahçe.

Tuncay Şanlı, the former Turkey international, took over as head coach in 2024; Tayfun Rıdvan Albayrak holds the post for the 2026/27 campaign, with survival in the Süper Lig the club's most immediate concern.
