Vesturi á Eiðinum

The ground sits at the edge of a steep green hillside, with the pitch tucked close to the road where spectators stand on the grass to watch. The pitch is artificial turf, marked by white lines on a uniform dark surface that stretches from the goal to the halfway line. Behind the goal, a simple fence separates the playing area from the rising slope, and above the spectators, the hill climbs away into open sky.

FC Suðuroy call this place home, though the club only formed in 2010 after the merger of VB Vágur and Sumba. The original club, VB Vágur, began play here in 1924 and the site has seen everything from the Island Games in 1989 to youth quarterfinals of the Løgmanssteypið. The surface is FIFA 1 Star standard, which means the ball behaves differently underfoot than on natural grass — a fact the players acknowledge every time they come for a cross they never reach.

There are blue plastic seats visible along one side of the pitch, but the majority of the crowd stands behind the goals, watching from the grass where cars park nearby. A small wooden building stands at the edge of the field, and a flagpole flies the Faroese flag above the parking area. The hillside behind the ground is bare of trees, only grass and rock, and it is that feature alone that makes the place different from any other stadium on the island.

Capacity is disputed — Nordic Stadiums lists 1,500 while Transfermarkt claims 3,000. No official attendance record has been found. The club's first victory under its new name came here in 2010, a 3–1 win against B68 Toftir in the Vodafonedeildin. The pitch has hosted matches in all kinds of weather, and the wind that comes off the sea straight down the valley has a way of changing how the game flows.
