Deportivo Muñiz

Muñiz sit in Primera D, back on a run of continuous seasons since 2011–12 after a career spent in and out of the league — in 1990–91, 1994–95, 2001–02, 2005–06, 2007–08 and 2010–11, on top of a voluntary withdrawal in 1964 that lasted until 1980.

The town of Muñiz, in the Buenos Aires municipality of San Miguel, has had a football club there since 1932, when it was founded in what was then General Sarmiento before that district split and became San Miguel. Deportivo Muñiz first joined the Argentine Football Association in 1956. The 1981 Torneo Reducido win earned promotion into Primera C, and in 1986–87 the club took its only official title, the Primera D championship, going back up a division on the strength of it.

The name that still attaches to the club has nothing to do with a player or a coach: in April 1998, Deportivo Muñiz took part in the first official match in Argentine football history to be run by a woman referee, Florencia Romano.

Rayo Rojo, they are called, in the red and white the club has always worn. A stadium went up in April 1980, but Muñiz gave it up not long after and have not had a ground of their own since, playing home fixtures as guests at San Miguel and Juventud Unida. The name Estadio Islas Malvinas still belongs to them on paper — 500 seats, in Ingeniero Adolfo Sourdeaux — waiting for a side that, for now, plays its football elsewhere.
