The clásico that matters most to Central Ballester is the one against Atlético Acassuso, a rivalry that hardened in the 1992/93 season when the two clubs fought each other for the Primera D title.

Central Ballester itself exists because a group of supporters refused to accept a decision. In 1974 the board at Club Atlético Central Argentino closed down its football section, and those supporters walked away and started again under a new name. The new club never inherited Central Argentino's legal standing, but it kept what mattered to the people who left: the blue-and-yellow striped shirt and the nickname Canalla, borrowed from Rosario Central.

The only title in the club's cabinet came in the 1995/96 season, when Central Ballester won Primera D and beat San Martín (B) in the final to move up to the division above. He had made his debut in 1989 and went on to play more matches for the club — well over 600 across 25 years — before staying on as manager. It was under Orquera, in 2018, that Central Ballester reached the round of 32 in the Copa Argentina and were drawn against Independiente.

The club now plays out of Estadio Central Ballester, a ground opened in May 2022 in José León Suárez, part of the San Martín municipality, holding around 2,000 people.
