About the player
Alex Telles broke through at Juventude having played recreational futsal beforehand, making his senior debut for the club in January 2011 before a free transfer took him to Grêmio two years later. His performances there earned him the Bola de Prata as the league's best left-back in 2013, and, after a loan spell at Inter Milan, to FC Porto in 2016.
Porto was where Telles built his reputation, winning two Primeira Liga titles, a Taça de Portugal and a Supertaça, and being named the club's Dragão de Ouro Player of the Year in 2018. He later joined Sevilla on loan, where he won the UEFA Europa League, before his contract at Al Nassr was terminated and he joined Botafogo on a free transfer in September 2024.
At Botafogo, Telles was central to the club's double in his first season, lifting the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the Copa Libertadores. In the Libertadores final against Atlético-MG, he scored from the penalty spot in the 44th minute as Botafogo won 3–1, a display that saw him named to the Team of the Tournament.
Internationally, Telles has earned twelve caps for Brazil since his debut against Panama in 2019. He started at the 2022 World Cup against Switzerland and Cameroon, but a knee injury suffered in the latter match ended his tournament early.
