León FC

Milton "Tita" Queiroz arrived from Brazil in the early 1990s.

The team itself grew out of a merger rather than a founding in the usual sense. In 1943 the leather-industry side Unión de Curtidores joined forces with a Guanajuato state selection, and the new club took the field the following year as Unión-León.

León plays in green and white, and La Fiera has never been the only name attached to the shirt — Los Esmeraldas and Los Panzas Verdes circulate just as freely among supporters. The home ground, Estadio León, is known locally as the Nou Camp; it holds 31,297.

The comeback of 1992 was not the club's last. León won back-to-back titles in the Apertura 2013 and Clausura 2014, then added Guardianes 2020. Abroad, the club has gone further than most of its domestic rivals, winning the Leagues Cup in 2021 and the CONCACAF Champions League in 2023.

Guadalajara remains the fixture that matters most, even without a fixed name of its own — unlike the Clásico del Bajío against Irapuato, this rivalry has none. Atlas has grown into a contest of similar weight since the two sides met in the 2021 Liga MX final.
