Komets beat Mangorud 3-0 in the first round of the 1. division on Saturday. The visitors ran out comfortable winners at Mangorud's ground on 19 September, taking all three points from a fixture that opened their campaign. Both sides entered the match with zero games and zero points on the board, so this was effectively a clean slate for each club.
To be fair, Mangorud had shown they could score goals in their previous outings. They beat Kongsvinger 2-0 back in early September, then followed that with a 4-6 defeat to Gruner. But those results were from different periods of their calendar, and this match told a different story entirely.
Komets were the better side from the start. They carried more intent into the final third and punished Mangorud's defensive errors without hesitation. And here's the thing — when you lose three goals without responding, the match is over long before the whistle blows.
We had backed the visitors at 54 per cent confidence going in. That prediction held up. Komets simply had too much for a Mangorud side that looked unorganised and unsure of itself, and the scoreline reflected that gap in quality.
By then, Mangorud's recent history was coming back to haunt them. They had drawn 3-4 with Ringerike in March, lost 0-5 and 0-8 in separate defeats to the same opponents, and gone through a run that suggested they were vulnerable in transition. Komets, meanwhile, had beaten Gjøvik 2-1 and dumped ten past Tromsø in a 10-7 thriller.
The result moves Komets to the top of the table on three points, while Mangorud remain on zero after their first defeat. A fourth straight win for Komets would have been a statement, but even this opening-day victory gives them momentum heading into the next round.
