Syunik and Van played out a 1-1 draw in the fourth round of the Premier League on Wednesday evening. Both sides remain winless after six matches, though the result lifted Syunik to two points while Van stayed on one. The match offered little in the way of flair, but plenty of tension as both teams fought to avoid further damage to their season.
T. Gevorgyan opened the scoring for Syunik in the thirty-seventh minute, but Van responded quickly. S. Sargsyan equalised four minutes later before Gevorgyan struck again just after the break. Van then found a late response in the forty-fifth minute to level matters, and both sides made changes at half-time with E. Vardanyan and P. E. Obinna coming on.
What followed was a patchy second half filled with disciplinary trouble rather than clear chances. E. Mensah picked up a yellow card in the fifty-second minute before being substituted himself in the sixty-second. Two more bookings arrived together in the seventy-seventh minute, and the drama peaked when a red card came out in the ninety-third minute, followed by another yellow four minutes later.
By then both sides had shown more frustration than fluency. Syunik sit eleventh with two points from six games, while Van occupy twelfth on one point. Neither side has tasted victory yet, and this shared result does little to separate them in the table.
The draw leaves both clubs staring at the drop rather than chasing anything ambitious. Syunik's recent form includes three losses in their last four before this point, while Van have won only once in their last five. This match gave neither team what they wanted, but at least it stopped the bleeding for both.
