Martin St. Louis Signs Contract Extension Through 2030
Montreal Canadiens have extended head coach Martin St. Louis through 2030, rewarding a playoff return last season after their best result under him so far.
Montreal Canadiens have signed head coach Martin St. Louis to a new long-term deal that runs through 2030, journalist Pierre LeBrun reported. The 51-year-old had one year left on his existing contract; the extension adds three more.
St. Louis has been behind the Canadiens' bench since February 2022. Last season the side finished 3rd in the Eastern Conference with 106 points from 82 matches and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
As a player St. Louis turned out for Calgary, Tampa Bay and the New York Rangers, and won the Stanley Cup with Tampa in 2004. He took the NHL scoring title twice and was named the regular season's most valuable player once. With Canada he won Olympic gold in 2014 and two world championship silvers, in 2008 and 2009. He retired in 2015 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame three years later.
The Canadiens currently sit 4th in the NHL. The extension keeps St. Louis in place as the club looks to build on last season's run rather than change course after its best result under him so far.
