Brad Marchand Out for Panthers' Start to NHL Season
The Florida forward is recovering from August surgery on a lower-body injury and will spend October on rehab, coach Paul Maurice says.
Brad Marchand will miss the start of the NHL regular season after undergoing surgery in August, the Florida Panthers have confirmed.
The 38-year-old forward suffered a lower-body injury in March and had the operation over the summer. The club has not disclosed details of the procedure. Head coach Paul Maurice said October will be given over to his recovery.
"Maybe by the end of the month he'll already be ready to play, or maybe he'll need a bit more time if there are no complications. We're proceeding on the basis that all of October will go on rehabilitation," Maurice said.
Marchand joined Florida in 2025 after 16 seasons with Boston, where he served as captain. Last season he made 52 appearances for the Panthers and scored 54 points (27+27). He has won the Stanley Cup twice.
Florida have started this campaign without a point from seven matches and sit eighth in the NHL. Without their forward for at least the opening month, that run looks unlikely to turn around quickly.
