Carbery: Ovechkin's Video Cameo Changes Nothing
Capitals coach Spencer Carbery says his view of captain Alexander Ovechkin is unaffected by the winger's brief appearance in a United Russia campaign video.
Spencer Carbery says Alexander Ovechkin's appearance in a Russian election campaign video has not changed how he sees his captain.
The video, released by the United Russia party, features party leaders ahead of Russia's State Duma elections. Ovechkin appears in the background of a clip in which Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov speaks. News of the footage surfaced on 14 September.
Carbery, head coach of the Washington Capitals, addressed the matter when asked about it, according to Sport24.
"I know Ovi well and I understand what matters most to him. I love him and his family. Alex is a big part of our team. He is our captain," Carbery said.
A Capitals spokesman, Sergei Kocharov, had already responded to the story. "Alexander Ovechkin is a Russian citizen who lives in Moscow with his family during the off-season and will remain living there after his career ends," Kocharov said.
