Zhurova Downplays Latvia's Entry Ban on Ovechkin
Duma deputy and Olympic skating champion Svetlana Zhurova reacted to Latvia barring Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin after his cameo in a United Russia campaign video.
State Duma deputy and Olympic speed-skating champion Svetlana Zhurova has responded to Latvia's decision to ban Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin from entering the country.
"Ovechkin will not suffer much from this," she said.
Latvia's foreign minister, Baiba Braže, announced on X that she had placed Ovechkin on the country's list of undesirable persons. The move followed the release of a United Russia campaign video, made public on 14 September, in which the party rolled out a series of clips featuring the leaders of its Duma election list. Ovechkin appeared in the background of one clip in which Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov speaks.
