Abubakr Barry

Barry grew up playing for Superstars Academy in Banjul before a move to Maccabi Haifa's youth setup, though he never made a senior appearance for the Israeli club. His path into professional football instead ran through a string of loans: after starting out with Hapoel Nof HaGalil, he was sent to Hapoel Kfar Shalem, then Hapoel Nir Ramat HaSharon, then Hapoel Kfar Saba, gathering senior experience one season at a time rather than establishing himself in one place.

The breakthrough came at Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv, where a loan move in July 2023 turned permanent. In the 2023–24 season he scored 9 goals in 32 league appearances. That form led to a two-year contract at FK Austria Wien from July 2024, where he made himself a regular, totalling 58 league appearances and 5 goals for the club.

Barry has also become a fixture for Gambia, earning 9 caps since 2024 and featuring in qualifying campaigns for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, though he is yet to open his scoring account at international level.

His performances at Austria Wien did not go unnoticed elsewhere: in June 2026 he completed a move to Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of €3 million, with a further €250,000 in add-ons and a 10% sell-on percentage retained by Austria Wien.
