About the player
In April 2024 Kang-Hee Lee wore the captain's armband for South Korea's under-23 side at the AFC U-23 Asian Cup and spent the win over Japan not in midfield but at centre-back. Korea took that match 1-0. It was a fair summary of what he offers: a midfielder who can be moved back a line without the shape suffering.
He came through the youth ranks at Suwon Samsung Bluewings and made his senior debut there in 2020, then spent the 2022 season on loan at Busan I'Park. The move that shaped his career came in January 2023, when he joined Gyeongnam FC on loan; by July the deal had been made permanent. At Gyeongnam he was appointed vice-captain and was twice named in the K League 2 Best XI in 2024.
Austria Wien signed him on 1 July 2025 for a fee of around €426,000, the club activating a buyout clause written into his contract. The agreement in Vienna runs until the summer of 2029.
His international record is modest in volume: one appearance and one goal at under-20 level, eight caps with the under-23s. He has yet to be capped by the senior South Korea side.
