About the player
Anes Kardaklija is a product of the GAIS academy, having joined the club at the age of six. He made his senior debut for GAIS on 3 September 2022, when the club was still playing in Ettan Fotboll, the third tier, and was instrumental as the team won back-to-back promotions, first into Superettan and then into the Allsvenskan.
He made his Allsvenskan debut in March 2024 and has gone on to make 53 league appearances for GAIS overall, including 17 in the 2024 top-flight season and seven in 2025. In January 2026, Italian Serie B club Spezia were reported to be closing in on a loan deal with an option to buy, though the move did not go through and he stayed at GAIS. He has also drawn interest from Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart.
Kardaklija represented Sweden at U18 and U19 level in 2023 before switching allegiance to Bosnia and Herzegovina, for whom he made his U21 debut in September 2024.
