Matteo Camillo Paul de Brienne

Matteo de Brienne started out with Ottawa South United at the age of three, staying with the club until 2016 and, in 2015 alone, scoring 44 goals in 20 games. That record earned him trials at Real Madrid and Crewe Alexandra before he moved into the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Academy in August 2016, playing for the club's under-17 side over the following two seasons. He later turned out for Carleton University Ravens, where ten appearances and six goals brought him the OUA West Rookie of the Year award and a place on the U Sports All-Rookie Team.

De Brienne turned professional with Atlético Ottawa in July 2020, then spent brief spells with Ottawa South United and FC Manitoba the following year. A move to Valour FC in January 2022 gave him a settled run in the Canadian Premier League: 42 league appearances and six goals across two seasons, capped by being named the 2023 CPL Best Canadian U-21 Player of the Year. He returned to Atlético Ottawa in December 2023 and made 26 league appearances in 2024.

In January 2025, de Brienne joined Swedish side GAIS on a contract running through to the end of 2029. His first season brought 24 matches across Allsvenskan and Svenska Cupen, with a goal and two assists, and he has continued as a regular in 2026, adding European football with two Conference League qualifying appearances — including a goal against Nordsjælland in July 2026.

His form led to a first senior call-up with Canada in January 2026, and he featured in a B-level friendly against Guatemala that month, a match that Canada won 1–0. He was subsequently included in the Canadian squad that reached the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup.
