About the player
Mohamed Bawa grew up in the GAIS system in Gothenburg, leaving briefly for BK Häcken before returning to the club's youth setup in 2022. He was promoted to the GAIS first team in January 2024 and signed a contract running into December 2026, but regular football with the senior side has been hard to come by, and the club has repeatedly sent him out on loan to get minutes elsewhere.
The first of those loans took him to Norrby IF in July 2024, where he stayed for the rest of the season and made 14 Superettan appearances, scoring once. In May 2025 he moved to Östersunds FK for a two-month spell, making two appearances without scoring, before a longer loan to FC Trollhättan from July to November 2025 produced 12 appearances and two goals.
Born in Gothenburg, Bawa qualifies for both Sweden and Libya through dual citizenship, and he chose the latter at international level. He made his debut for Libya on 27 March 2026, coming on as a substitute in a goalless friendly against Niger at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Morocco. That appearance remains his only cap so far.
A right-footed midfielder, Bawa's path so far has been shaped less by a single breakthrough moment than by a string of loans as he looks to force his way into regular first-team football at GAIS.
