The team that would become Ascoli started life in 1898 under the name Candido Augusto Vecchi, went through Ascoli Vigor, U.S. Ascolana and A.S.

In December 2013 a court in Ascoli Piceno declared it bankrupt and valued what was left at 862,000 euros. The assets went to auction, a new company took them on, and the team carried on without dropping a division.

Last season ended with second place in Group B of Serie C and promotion through the play-offs, which puts the Picchio — the woodpecker on the badge, black and white like the shirts — back in Serie B.
