The Wrexham derby, in Gresford Athletic's case, means Brickfield Rangers .

The village behind the club sat on a colliery, and the nickname stuck: The Colliers . Founded in 1946, the team won the Welsh National East Division in its first full season, 1946–47.

The one that mattered most came later. Gresford took the Welsh National League Premier title in 1995–96, then again in 2000–01 and 2014–15 — three championships at the top of that pyramid. The reserves added the FAW Reserve League North East in 2021–22.

Clappers Lane remains the registered home, a small ground with 250 seats. Since September 2024, though, the first team has been playing its matches at The Hollingsworth Group Stadium in Broughton. The club redesigned its badge in June 2025.

Then, in November 2025, six people walked out at once — among them the manager, Eddie Morris-Jones, and the chairman and treasurer, Pete Goddard. The resignations came without warning and left the club's future in question at a point when it was already playing away from its own ground.

Gresford remain amateur, and remain in the second tier of the Welsh system.
