Dukla grew out of the Czechoslovak army sports system, founded on 1 October 1948 as ATK Praha, and carried the military through a string of names — ÚDA, VTJ, ASVS — before settling on HC Dukla Praha.
The army connection shaped the club's golden era. Between 1950 and 1992 Dukla won the Czechoslovak league 28 times, and took the Czechoslovak Cup on eight occasions through the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Independence in 1993 shrank the pool of domestic rivals but not the club's habit of winning the league; Dukla have added four more Extraliga titles since, most recently in 2025. The cup has proved a harder trophy to find — not since 1993.
