«The Samouraïs»
The Derby Kinois needs no introduction in Kinshasa, and JSK's side of it comes with a chip on its shoulder. JSK won a Second Division title in 2019–20 that sent it back up to the top flight, took the Kinshasa Urban League and the Kinshasa Super Cup in 2018, and finished runner-up in the Coupe du Congo that same year.
The Samouraïs made do with smaller glories at the top level. Jean Baleke Othos finished as Linafoot's top scorer in 2020–21 and earned a call-up to the national squad for the African Nations Championship. Mustapha Avadongo Luete moved on from JSK to Antwerp in Belgium and into the national team setup.
Where JSK actually built a dynasty was on the handball court. Its handball section won the Congo Cup eleven times running, from 2010 to 2019 and again in 2021, and reached the final of the African Handball Champions League in 2023.
Founded in 2006, the club plays in blue, red and white and fills out fixtures at the Stade des Martyrs, an 80,000-capacity ground it shares with Vita Club and the rest of Kinshasa's football scene. The football license was eventually sold off, passing to new ownership under the name FC Les Aigles du Congo, though the Samouraïs nickname stayed behind as the one thing carried over.
