Game 5 of the 2025 Clark Cup final went to overtime against the Waterloo Black Hawks, and it was Jack Christ who ended it, scoring the series-clinching goal to give Muskegon a 4–3 win and its first championship since the franchise returned to the United States Hockey League.

That current Lumberjacks team, founded in 2010, is not the club that wore the name in the 1980s. Larry Gordon renamed the Muskegon Mohawks in 1984, and those Lumberjacks left for Cleveland in 1992. A replacement club, the Muskegon Fury, took over the city's ice for sixteen years before new owners restored the old name in 2008, only for that version to fold after the 2009–10 season and hand its rights to what became the Evansville IceMen. The USHL side that plays now picked up the naming rights and the lineage but started as its own franchise, under the Mervis family's Blue Ox Hockey.

The clearest sign of what the club can produce came through in 2016–17, when Andrei Svechnikov passed through Muskegon on his way to becoming USHL Rookie of the Year before Carolina took him second overall in the 2018 NHL Draft; he lifted the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2026. A year earlier, Rem Pitlick had set the franchise scoring record with 89 points and swept the league's player-of-the-year honours before Nashville drafted him.

Having taken the Eastern Conference in 2025 and again in 2026, the Lumberjacks head into the new season looking to add a second Clark Cup to the one Christ won them.
