It took until 1965 for the club to reach the First Division, and the following decades brought as many drops as climbs: a relegation in 1968 undone within two years, a slide into internal crisis and financial scandal at the end of the 1990s that kept them in the second tier for six seasons, and a 2016 relegation triggered by players striking over unpaid wages. They found their way back to Elite One in 2024.

Panthère's clearest mark on the game has come in the Cameroon Cup. In 1988 they beat Racing de Bafoussam 1-0 in the final, a result still cited whenever the two clubs meet, and in 2025 they won it again, edging past Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo on penalties after a 1-1 draw. A league title has eluded them; third place, in 1990 and again in 2012, is as close as they have come.

Bachirou Salou wore the yellow and green for two seasons before Borussia Mönchengladbach signed him off the back of it.

Home games are still played in front of no more than 2,000 people at the Stade Municipal de Bangangté, a ground that can be pushed to 10,000 when the occasion demands it.
