Down the 402 corridor toward London, the Sting's grudge runs deepest against the Knights, a fixture both sides simply call the Battle of the 402; Erie and Windsor fill out the rest of the schedule's rougher nights.

The franchise itself did not begin in Sarnia. It traces back to the Cornwall Royals, a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League club from 1969 that switched to the OHL in 1981 and won the Memorial Cup three times under that name, in 1972, 1980 and 1981. The Royals shifted to Newmarket in 1992, went through a season without a single road win, and in 1994 moved again, this time to Sarnia, taking the Sting name with them. None of the Memorial Cup silverware travelled with the franchise on paper — those belong to the Royals — but the Sting have built their own, more modest list since, taking the Bumbacco Trophy for the OHL's West Division in 2004 and again in 2016.

Home games are played in front of just over 4,000 seats. Steven Stamkos went first overall in the 2006 draft out of Sarnia, and his number 91 hangs in the rafters at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena — the only number the club has retired. Nail Yakupov and Alex Galchenyuk followed him as first-overall picks in 2012 and 2010, but it is still his number people point to first when the conversation turns to who the Sting produced.
