The Sleeman Centre seats 4,715 for hockey, a downtown Guelph arena the Storm moved into in 2000 after years at the Guelph Memorial Gardens. Before that address ever mattered, the franchise descends from the Toronto Marlboros, a name that won seven Memorial Cups before the team fell away under Harold Ballard's ownership, then passed through two seasons as the Hamilton Dukes before landing in Guelph in 1991 and taking the Storm name.

The turn came under Craig Hartsburg, who guided the club to the Hamilton Spectator Trophy in 1994–95 — four J. Ross Robertson Cups, in 1998, 2004, 2014 and 2019. The Memorial Cup itself has stayed just out of reach across six appearances, closest in 1998 and again in 2014, both times ending in a final defeat.

Two rivalries carry the crimson and black through the regular season. The Highway 7 Rivalry, against the Kitchener Rangers, takes its name from the road linking the two cities, and the away end travels that road often.
