Owen Sound had never seen anything quite like the spring of 2011, when a franchise went all the way, beating the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors 4–3 in the final to lift the J. Ross Robertson Cup. The run carried the club to the Memorial Cup itself, where it finished third in the round-robin.

The team did not start out as the Attack. It arrived in town in 1989 as the Owen Sound Platers, a transplant of the old Guelph Platers, before a local ownership group nicknamed the "Super Six" bought the franchise in 2000 and rebranded it. Kirk Maltby and Andrew Brunette both came through in the Platers years, before the switch to red, gold, black and white.

Since the rebrand, the Attack has sent a steady line of players into the NHL — Wayne Simmonds and Bobby Ryan among the earlier ones, Cody Ceci and Owen Tippett later, and more recently Jordan Binnington, who went on to win the Stanley Cup in goal for the St. Louis Blues, and Nick Suzuki, now captain in Montreal. The number 14 hangs retired for Dan Snyder.

Games are played at the J.D. McArthur Arena, inside the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, in front of a crowd capped at 3,500. For all the names the club has sent to the NHL, the Cup from 2011 remains the only one in the cabinet.
