Vittsjö

Thomas Mårtensson took a village side out of Division 1 Södra in 2011. Vittsjö GIK went up to the Damallsvenskan for the first time the following spring and finished sixth. He remained in charge until 2014.

Vittsjö is a small place in Skåne County, and the football section — women's, set up in 1980 within a gymnastics and sports club that dates back to 1933 — has been run largely by volunteers throughout.

What Vittsjö did instead of building a youth pipeline was recruit from abroad. Jane Ross arrived from Scotland in 2013 and scored 36 goals in three seasons. Antonia Göransson followed in 2014. Denise Reddy took the job in 2015 and held it for two seasons.

No league title, no Svenska Cupen. The club's business remains what it was in 2012: holding a place among the professionals with a ground that seats 1,500 and a committee that does the work in its own time.
