Zürich II

Sportanlage Heerenschürli sits in the north-east of the city, a training-ground-turned-matchday venue with room for 1,500 around the pitch. It isn't built to be filled; it's built to give younger players a proper pitch before anyone talks about Letzigrund.

That is the function of the side based there. FC Zürich II plays in the 1. Liga Promotion, the third tier of Swiss football, a level meant to put the club's prospects against senior opposition before any step up to the first team is considered.

The parent club goes back to 1 August 1896, formed by former members of three earlier Zurich sides — FC Turicum, FC Excelsior and FC Viktoria. The reserve team runs out in the same white and blue FC Zürich has carried since the 1960s.

Its clearest mark on record dates to November 2014, when it was awarded the U21 Trophy for the 2013/14 season.

Beyond that, there is little else attached to this side specifically: no league title or Swiss Cup run of its own, no settled derby rival, no graduate whose path through the second team is documented on the record.
