ABB and Villarreal Share Points in Late Drama
ABB and Guibertto Villarroel played out a 2:2 draw in the Apertura round 16 of the Primera División on Saturday evening. Two goals from J. F. Fajardo put the home side ahead before a second-half own goal and a stoppage-time strike brought the visitors level. and here's the thing — the match looked settled at 2-1 until the final whistle was about to blow.
Fajardo opened the scoring with a penalty in the twenty-eighth minute, then added a second six minutes later to give ABB control. Villarroel had G. Justiniano booked in the twenty-first but could do little to stop the home side's momentum. to be fair, the away team had more possession and more attacks, but their shots went wide more often than not.
Three changes at half-time — J. Goyeneche, L. Vargas and D. Calero — did not shift the balance immediately. Z. La Fuente deflected the ball into his own net in the sixty-third minute and Villarroel thought they had rescued something. by then the yellow cards were piling up, eight between the sides before Justiniano's goal in the ninety-first minute.
ABB held 43 per cent of possession but managed seven shots on target against four, while Villarroel created no big chances despite 100 attacks. The home side registered 13 key passes to 11, and their shots accuracy of 44 per cent outstripped the visitors' 25. Five yellow cards for the away side told their own story of frustration.
The result leaves ABB in twelfth place on seventeen points after seventeen games, one point above Villarroel who sit sixteenth with fourteen. Both sides have lost more than they have won this season, and and here's the thing — neither side looked like finding a rhythm any time soon.
