Sarmiento de Junín claimed a 2-1 victory over Atlético Tucumán in the Argentine Professional League's Clausura round 4 on 8 August 2026. Jonathan Marabel fired the hosts into an early lead with a penalty before Joaquin Mavilla added a second. Lautaro Vallejo pulled one back late on but Atlético could find no equaliser.
Sarmiento took the lead in the 69th minute when Marabel converted from the spot. Mavilla doubled the advantage four minutes later before being substituted himself in the 80th. Vallejo's late strike in the 81st minute gave Atlético hope but the visitors saw out the closing stages to claim all three points.
Atlético Tucumán dominated possession at 54 per cent and created more chances statistically with two big chances compared to Sarmiento's two. However, the visitors were more clinical with an expected goals figure of 1.41 against the hosts' 0.64. Atlético registered six shots on target while Sarmiento managed five.
The result leaves Atlético Tucumán in 13th place with 14 points from 16 games, while Sarmiento sit 11th with 19 points. Both sides have played the same number of matches and remain in the middle of the table with plenty of ground to cover.
Atlético Tucumán came into the match with a mixed run of form, including two consecutive goalless draws. Sarmiento had shown more attacking intent recently with victories over Independiente Rivadavia and more costly defeats against Banfield and Argentinos Juniors.
