Central North secured a 2-1 victory over CA Estudiantes in the Primera Nacional's Regular Season round 26, played on Saturday night. The home side took all three points despite Estudiantes arriving in eighth place with nine more points than their hosts in thirteenth.
An own goal from J. Benitez at sixty-two minutes gave Central North the lead they needed. F. Quinteros doubled the advantage at seventy, and while Estudiantes pulled one back through F. Borda in stoppage time, the visitors could not find an equaliser. There was plenty of stoppage and restarts throughout—two substitutions for I. Vera and E. Almiron within minutes of each other at half-time, for instance, which threw the rhythm of the game.
Central North dominated possession at fifty-nine per cent and created more chances, registering four shots on target compared to Estudiantes' single attempt on goal. The home side won twelve corners to two, and their ninety-four attacks told their story more than the scoreboard alone would suggest. Estudiantes managed sixty-six attacks but could not convert them into meaningful pressure.
The result leaves Central North on twenty-nine points after twenty-seven matches, while Estudiantes remain in eighth with thirty-six. Neither side has changed position dramatically, but the gap between them in the table remains the same—seven points separate the two sides heading into the next round of fixtures.
