Ferencváros failed to hold on against PAOK in the second qualifying round semi-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League, losing 2:3 after extra time on Wednesday evening. The hosts had led twice through D. Csanyi and V. Kubassova but could not keep their visitors out. PAOK took the lead twice and found a winner in the 93rd minute through I. Tzourtzevits.
L. Andreevska opened the scoring inside the first six minutes, catching Ferencváros off guard. D. Csanyi levelled eight minutes later, and then P. Argyriou restored PAOK's advantage before the half-hour mark. Ferencváros pulled level again through V. Kubassova in the 42nd minute, and the match seemed set for a draw until the final stages.
PAOK won it late. Tzourtzevits struck in the 93rd minute, and neither side could find an equaliser in extra time. The away side had substitutions to make — M. Gacanica came on in the 100th minute, L. Andreevska returned in the 111th — but the game was already decided. Four yellow cards for the hosts and one for PAOK, with F. Dioszegi the latest booking in the 115th minute.
And here's the thing about the numbers. Ferencváros dominated possession at 58 per cent and launched 126 attacks, yet managed only seven shots on target. PAOK, with 42 per cent possession, hit eleven shots on target and kept a 55 per cent accuracy rate. They won the corners battle 7-2 and took 38 throw-ins compared to the hosts' 24. By then the result was clear — Ferencváros had hit a wall when it mattered.
The loss extends a difficult run for the Hungarian side. Their last five results read 0:5, 0:0, 1:2, 0:3, 0:4 — a pattern of heavy defeats and narrow draws that suggests something has shifted. PAOK's recent form looks sharper, with wins over Neftchi Baku and Hapoel Jerusalem women before some mixed results earlier in their campaign. The visitors advance to the next round.
