Match report

**By Étienne Gagnon**

Liverpool and Nottingham Forest played out a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Friday evening, both sides leaving the stadium with one point each from their opening two Premier League fixtures. The match, which concluded at 11:30 local time, saw Liverpool remain level on points with their visitors after an entertaining 90 minutes.

Nottingham Forest took a surprise lead through Dan Ndoye in the 24th minute, before Liverpool responded with a goal that never counted. Florian Wirtz found the net in the 32nd minute, but the effort was cancelled after a VAR review. Igor Jesus picked up a yellow card for the visitors in the 44th minute as the half concluded.

Liverpool turned the game around through Alexander Isak, who scored in the 50th minute to level matters. The hosts were denied a second goal when Morgan Gibbs-White converted a penalty in the 70th minute, keeping Forest in the contest. Víctor Muñoz added a late equaliser for the visitors in the 82nd minute.

Liverpool dominated possession at 69% but created just one big chance compared to Forest's five. The hosts registered 13 shots while the visitors managed 6, yet Liverpool's shot accuracy sat at 31% compared to Forest's 25%. Both sides had four shots on target each, but only four of those found the back of the net.

The result leaves Liverpool in 13th place with two points from two games, having drawn with Newcastle United in their previous fixture. Nottingham Forest sit 15th on a single point after a defeat to Leeds United on Tuesday. Both teams showed resilience in attack but vulnerability in defence throughout the encounter.

Several substitutions were made in the second half without changing the outcome. Dan Ndoye came off in the 66th minute, while Liverpool brought on Cody Gakpo, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong around the 71st minute mark. Alexis Mac Allister and Jérémy Jacquet also entered the fray for the hosts.

With two yellow cards each for both sides, the match remained competitive without any dismissals. Alisson Becker and Ronald Araujo collected bookings for Liverpool, while Ola Aina and Víctor Muñoz were cautioned for the visitors. The statistics suggest Liverpool controlled the game but couldn't convert their dominance into victory.
