Malženičice and Považská Bystrica met in the fourth round of the Czechoslovak Second League on Saturday, and the visitors took all three points with a 2-1 win. M. Mynar struck twice in quick succession to put the hosts ahead, but D. Kucharcik and A. Mojzis turned the game on its head in the second half.
The opening exchanges were cagey, with A. Kacerik collecting two yellow cards in as many minutes before being substituted at the restart. «By then» the pattern was already set — Malženičice controlled territory but couldn't find a killer touch. Mynar changed that at 35 minutes, and by 36 he had doubled the lead, catching the Bystrica defence flat-footed.
What followed was a match that grew in tension rather than quality. Ten substitutions were made, mostly to address the growing gap in energy. M. Henyig was shown a yellow at 58 and a red at 89, leaving Malženičice with ten men for the final quarter. N. Gorosito missed a penalty in the 85th minute — one mistake ends it, and that was enough to keep Bystrica in the game.
Kucharcik equalised at 73, then Mojzis completed the turnaround at 75. The statistics tell a different story from the result: Malženičice enjoyed 56 per cent possession and registered 158 attacks compared to Bystrica's 101, yet the visitors were more efficient on target. Five shots on target for the hosts produced two goals; seven for Bystrica produced two as well.
The result leaves Bystrica fifth with ten points from six games, while Malženičice remain tenth on seven. «And here's the thing» — the visitors have now won three of six, while the hosts have lost three and drawn only once. This was a derby with no love lost, decided in the final twenty minutes when fatigue set in and patience ran out.
