Boise defeated Neapol 2-0 in the USL League One group stage on Friday evening. N. Moon opened the scoring in the 16th minute before D. Kostyshyn doubled the lead in the 51st. The visitors have not won since their last fixture, but this result ends a run of defeats for the hosts.
Neapol controlled possession at 60 per cent but could not find the target with any of their attempts. Two shots flew wide while Boise took three off target and hit the woodwork once. And here's the thing — you can dominate territory and still leave empty-handed if your finishing is this poor.
C. Garcia collected two bookings before being sent off in the 68th minute. P. Mayaka and D. Gasso also picked up yellow cards for the home side. To be fair, the red card came after a second booking, but the timing could not have been worse for Neapol's hopes of a comeback.
Boise made seven substitutions during the second half, bringing on J. Cisneros, A. Mesias, O. Ciss, G. Miglietti, and D. Kostyshyn among others. Neapol responded with three changes including N. Likulia and T. Moshobane. By then the result was already settled, but both managers wanted fresh legs.
Boise sit fifth with 41 points from 24 games while Neapol languish in 13th on 26. The visitors have won 12 matches this season compared to the hosts' eight. Neapol's recent form includes a 4-0 defeat to Greenville Triumph, though they did beat Omaha 2-0 in their previous outing.
