Osijek beat NK Lokomotiva 1-0 in the Croatian First League on Saturday evening at the Opus Arena. The match, played under floodlights on 15 August, ended with a home win that extended their unbeaten run to eight matches. The result keeps Osijek fourth in the table with twelve points from six games.
To be fair, Lokomotiva held their shape for most of the ninety minutes. They pressed high up the pitch in the opening exchanges but gradually pulled back into a compact block. Osijek switched the ball from side to side, looking for space, but the visitors were left exposed only once or twice. The heat took the sting out of it for both sides as the afternoon gave way to evening.
And here's the thing — the decisive moment came when everyone expected the game to settle. Jakupovic found room in the penalty area and finished cleanly in the 90th minute. The visitors had created one big chance earlier but could not convert. Osijek had two, and they made one count when it mattered.
By then, Lokomotiva were playing a man down. Pajač was shown a red card in the 90th minute plus five, leaving them to defend a deep line for the remainder of stoppage time. The home side substituted heavily in the final minutes, bringing on five players in quick succession. It was not so much a tactical change as a sign that the result was already decided.
The statistics tell the story of control without domination. Osijek held 66 per cent of possession and completed 391 passes compared to 148. They registered 17 shots, four on target, while Lokomotiva offered five shots with none on target. The visitors made more tackles — 25 to 22 — and won more aerial duels, but they could not create enough to trouble the goalkeeper.
Osiеk move closer to the upper half of the standings, though they remain four points behind the leaders. Lokomotiva stay sixth with six points and now face a difficult run of fixtures. The draw brought them together early in the season, and this was another chapter in a rivalry that has not yet settled into a clear pattern.
