Olimpija Ljubljana and Maribor played out a 1-1 draw at Stožice in the fifth round of the Slovenian First League on Saturday evening. The result leaves the visitors top of the table while the hosts remain in fifth place.
Jure Urbancic gave Olimpija the lead with two goals before half-time, firing in at the 45th and 45+6th minutes to send the home end into celebration. Maribor responded through Luka Zahovic, who found the net in the 85th minute to level matters and give his side something to take away.
And here's the thing about the statistics — both teams registered exactly 0.5 possession, which tells you the match was evenly balanced in that respect. Maribor generated more attacks with 140 compared to Olimpija's 98, but Olimpija were sharper in front of goal with three shots on target to their opponents' two.
The yellow card count reflected the intensity, with Olimpija collecting five compared to Maribor's two. Uroš Spajić and Denis Doffo went off at the 70th minute for the visitors in a double substitution, while Diga brought himself off for Olimpija in the 77th minute.
By then, Maribor had extended their unbeaten run to eight games without a defeat — four wins and four draws. Olimpija's record stands at three victories, two draws and three losses from eight matches, accumulating 11 points compared to their opponents' 16.
