Match report

Reims and Gangwon shared the points at Stade Auguste Delaune in the fifth round of Ligue 2, ending 2-2 on Saturday. The hosts had built momentum from three consecutive victories but found themselves matched by a visitor who rarely dominates proceedings. And here's the thing — neither side could find a winner despite creating enough to separate themselves.

Stanislas Kielt gave Reims the lead inside the opening five minutes, capitalising on early pressure before the visitors could settle. The striker had been sharp in training and showed it immediately, finishing from close range after a quick combination. Gangwon's back line scrambled to respond but Kielt had already buried the opening blow.

Yaya Fofana doubled the advantage just before half-time, catching Gangwon asleep between the whistle and the restart. The goal came from a set piece routine that had been rehearsed, with Fofana timing his run perfectly to meet the cross. By then the visitors were chasing the game and struggling to create anything meaningful in midfield.

Gangwon finally got back into the contest when Brandon Bokangu scored in the eighty-eighth minute, but it was too late to salvage anything more. The striker had been invisible for most of the match, waiting for his moment and taking it when it came. To be fair, Reims had not controlled the game as comfortably as the scoreline suggested.

There were five substitutions between the two sides in the second half, with Reims making three changes at sixty-seven minutes alone. John Otomewo and Samir Ben Brahim picked up yellow cards for Gangwon, while Reims brought on Mohammed Daramy late on. The manager had options on the bench and used them, though none could change the result.

Reims held 52 per cent possession but managed only three shots on target, while Gangwon registered seven despite having less time with the ball. The visitors created six big chances compared to two for the hosts, suggesting they were more dangerous in the final third. Shots accuracy favoured Gangwon at 41 per cent against 33 per cent, and the statistics show why the draw felt inevitable.

The result keeps Reims third with nine points from five matches, their unbeaten run continuing without adding wins. Gangwon remain eleventh with five points, still searching for their first victory of the campaign. The gap between the sides has not closed, and neither team has moved significantly in the table.
