Santiago Wanderers and Deportes Puerto-Mont played out a 1:1 draw in Primera B's 21st round on Sunday. The result leaves the hosts top of the table on 44 points while their visitors remain seventh with 34.
Camarda gave Wanderers the lead in rapid succession, finding the net at 32 and 33 before being substituted off at 35. By then, Puerto-Mont had already been alerted to the danger and regrouped. Paredes levelled five minutes after the hour mark, finishing a move that had gone the length of the pitch.
Both sides traded yellow cards in the middle period. Herrera and Ponce were booked for Wanderers, while Paredes later picked up two bookings in five minutes for the visitors. Nieto also went into the book at 61, adding to the sense that tempers were fraying as the game opened up.
Wanderers made three changes at 61 through Villarroel, Flores and San Martin, only to swap them again at 62. Puerto-Mont responded at 75 with four alterations, bringing on Jaime, Vargas, Nieto and Taiva. The pitch cut up badly in the second half, which slowed the tempo more than any tactical shift.
The statistics tell a story of even chances. Both teams held 50 per cent possession, Wanderers registered six shots on target to three for their opponents, and the away side edged the attack count 86 to 80. And here's the thing — many shots with one goal means chances went begging for both.
To be fair, neither side looked like finding a winner after the break. Wanderers had not won since their 4:0 victory over Unión La-Caldera earlier in the week, while Puerto-Mont had dropped points in three of their last five. The draw extended Wanderers' unbeaten run and kept the gap between them and seventh at nine points.
