Sporting Gijón hosted Girona at El Molinón on Saturday afternoon in the fourth round of the Segunda División. The visitors took all three points with a 2-0 victory, ending the hosts' unbeaten run. And here's the thing about the opening goal. Yaser Asprilla found space in the penalty area at the 27th minute and finished calmly. Sporting had pinned them back in the opening exchanges, but Girona gave up the ball and hit them on the break. It was a moment that changed how the game unfolded.

Álex Moreno then went to the referee's notebook at 48 minutes, and Fran Beltran joined him at 54. The match grew tighter by then.
Carles Pérez closed the game out at 76 minutes. Sporting had dominated possession but could not convert their chances into a second goal. To be fair, Girona played the second half a man up when Fran Beltran came off for Yaser Asprilla at 68 minutes. The visitors managed their game well after that.

They registered 15 shots with five on target, while Girona managed eight shots with three on target. Sporting blocked seven shots and made 12 clearances, but the numbers did not reflect the result.
Girona moved up to fourth place while Sporting dropped to 10th. The gap between them remains narrow at seven points each, but the psychological weight of this result matters more than the table. By then, the away end never stopped, and the hosts had not won since their opening day victory.
