Stade Nyonnais played out a 2-2 draw with Winterthur in the Challenge League's regular season round six on Tuesday evening. The result leaves Nyonnais still bottom of the table with only a single point from five matches, while Winterthur sit fifth with eight.
E. Maluvunu opened the scoring for the hosts in the third minute, a chance that caught Winterthur's defence flat-footed. M. Miguel brought them level nine minutes after the restart before Maluvunu restored Nyonnais' advantage just before half-time.
By then the game had its turning point. A. Marchesano picked up a second yellow in the 51st minute and saw red, leaving Winterthur to finish the match with ten men. To be fair, they had already weathered the early pressure and Nyonnais never quite got out of second gear.
F. Lentini pulled Winterthur level in the 60th minute, and they held on despite the numerical disadvantage. Nyonnais created four big chances but only converted two, while Winterthur were more efficient with eight shots on target.
The result extends Winterthur's unbeaten run to three matches and ends Nyonnais' hopes of a first victory this season. Both sides have now played five games, but the gap between them remains substantial.
